Deciding to get healthy can seem like a daunting undertaking. We tend to focus on all the things we have to DO. But what about the things we must THINK in order to get where we want to go?
There are 5 major mindset shifts I’ve found to be critical to successfully getting results in health.
Don’t wait for the “perfect time” or a more convenient avenue. Start today. Do what you can do now with what you have. It’s all about small, consistent steps to get massive impact. Drink some water. Eat some veggies. Go to the gym. No excuses. Just do it… TODAY.
Progress > Perfection
You won’t get it all right right away. It takes time to figure out what works for you. The goal is to keep moving forward in the direction you want to go, not to move perfectly. Perfection can hang us up so that we never move at all. As you know better, do better. But until you know better, keep doing your best.
You are in control.
Your health is your responsibility. You are in control of your mind and body. Nobody will ever care about your health as much as you, no matter how much they love you. Because you’re the one that has to live your life in your body. Take ownership for where you’re at and making progress towards where you want to go.
Willpower will not get you there.
Willpower is limited. You only get so many decisions per day before your judgement isn’t so good. You can’t power through to health. Be intentional, and structure your life such that the good decisions are easier to make. Keep healthy food in your house. And maybe more importantly, don’t keep unhealthy food around. Lay out your workout clothes the night before. Make it as convenient as possible to do the best thing.
The learning never ends. What works for you today, may not work for you tomorrow or next year. You have to adapt and keep changing according to what your mind and body need. Learn to listen to your body and respond accordingly. Your body is the best doctor, and your job is to be the detective. Figure out what you need today, and take in what serves you.
