Gentle Mondays (& Tuesdays) | Day 5 of 90

Recently, my business mentor has opened my eyes to the concept of gentle Mondays.

Monday is typically the “beginning”.

The diet starts Monday. I’ll hit the gym starting Monday. Monday marks the start of my XYZ habit.

We seem to put a lot of weight on Mondays, especially since it’s a day that’s usually a little tougher than the others anyways.

Gentle Mondays

But what if it didn’t have to be that way? What if Monday could be a little easier with a little less pressure? I don’t know about you, but the idea of “gentle Mondays” just seems better to me.

Maybe the diet can start Tuesday. Or you could start your new gym workouts on Saturday. Friday could be the day you start meditating every morning.

It doesn’t have to be Monday. Monday is just the start of the work week. You can start any day.

This is actually what I thought about writing about yesterday — gentle Mondays, but my blogging plans got derailed in more than one way. First, I ended up on a long call with my wedding photographer, so I started writing waaaaay past when I was ready for winding down.

But as I was getting ready for bed, I got SICK. Like suuuuuper sick.

I ended up getting to sleep way later than planned and sleeping in until I barely had enough time to get ready for work. After getting crap quality sleep.

Gentle Tuesdays

This is where gentle Tuesdays come into play.

I can be really hard on myself if I don’t stick to my plan — even if the thing that derails me is completely out of my control. Like spending the evening curled up on my bath mat.

I tend to wrestle with the difference between being lazy and taking rest. I don’t know that anybody has ever been able to call me a lazy person, but part of my personality is feeling the need to be useful and productive ALL THE TIME.

Hence, my excitement at the idea of gentle Mondays!

Today I had to practice a gentle Tuesday. I didn’t workout, I didn’t have my long, easy morning that I love, and I didn’t stick with my “plan”.

What I did instead?

I let my body rest and recover. I ate nurturing foods like bone broth and vegetable soup. And I didn’t beat myself up over something I couldn’t control.

I did still go to work, which quite frankly was miserable. But even there, I tried to get away with the bare minimum and just survive til the end of the day.

And it’s okay to have days like that. Gentle Mondays can apply to any day of the week you need it, too. 😉

It was a gentle Tuesday.

If you’ve got the Sunday blues every week or just dread Mondays every week, cut yourself some slack! It’s okay to be chill and use an easier day of the week as your big day.

Okay, onto today’s check in…

Health

So obviously I had a huge weight drop between last night and this morning. Last night I was super bloated after just eating dinner. This morning my stomach was EMPTY. It makes a huge difference.

Sleep

So being sick really sabotaged my sleep. I have several wake ups through the night, and my lowest resting heart rate was much higher than usual. This is an indication of being less rested.

I plan to be back at it tomorrow, starting with a run first thing in the morning! We’ll see how it goes. If my body needs an extra day of recovery, I’m going to listen to its needs and then give it what it needs.

Much love,

Kate
