It all starts with perspective. What does being healthy ultimately mean to you? If health is just jumping on board with the new fad diet or losing 20 pounds, then that’s as far as you’ll ever get. If you’re lucky. That’s not to say goals are bad. You should have health goals. They’ll help push you forward. However, if you shift your mindset to the bigger picture, your waistline will follow effortlessly. Here’s how…
Redefine Your Approach to Health
Health is integrated into your lifestyle, your day to day activities, you mindset, and your decisions. It isn’t something you have just because you eat salad and exercise 3x a week.
If you’re willing to make radical changes to your life: everything from food to fitness to sleep, you will get results.
It takes time and work to get these results. After decades of poor nutrition, you can’t fix it in a few days or weeks.
Part of gaining total wellness is understanding how everything works together. Food, stress, sleep, environment, exercise, & skin care just scratch the surface of the web of factors that contribute to your health. I think that health subscribes to the 80/20 principle: 80% of your health comes from food & 20% comes from other factors.
Food is what your body builds itself out of. What you eat has long lasting consequences. It becomes your body. This is why I label food as the most important of the factors to start with. You can’t exercise your way out of a bad diet. What you eat will always catch up with you, for better or worse.
Key Mindset Shifts
There are 5 principles to getting the right mindset when getting healthy:
- Your body will tell you what it needs. Your job is to listen.
- Be patient. It took time to do damage. It’ll take time to undo the damage.
- The journey to health is emotional. Be honest with yourself.
- Food comes first. It is information to your body, not just arbitrary fuel.
- Everything is connected.
